Cyber University to open next spring. Japan’s first four-year online university offering all lectures over the Internet will open next spring, officials said. An education ministry advisory panel on Monday recommended the ministry approve the opening of Cyber University based in Fukuoka, the officials said.
Comprising the Faculty of Information Technology and Business and the Faculty of World Heritage, Cyber University will be headed by Sakuji Yoshimura, a Waseda University visiting professor and archaeologist specializing in Egypt, the officials said.
Yoshimura will also serve as dean of the Faculty of World Heritage, they added. The university will be the seventh established by private companies under the government-designated special zone program for structural reform.
Cyber University will be operated mainly by Japan Cyber Educational Institute Ltd., a subsidiary of leading Japanese Internet firm Softbank Corp.
